His brother Corporal Theodore Heinz (L/12688) survived Dieppe Raid on August 19, 1942. He was awarded One Good Conduct Badge. He disembarked on July 8, 1944 in France and was killed in action during the battle of Caen, France on July 20, 1944 while serving with the South Saskatchewan Regiment. He is buried at Bretteville-Sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, France Plot 3, Row E, Grave 5.
